There are 80,000 skyscrapers internationally and the number grows daily. With as many as 200,000,000 people living and working in these buildings there became a demand for an additional evacuation solution. Inspired by the events of September 11th, 2001, then Firefighter Ryan Alles pursued certain types of evacuation technologies in an effort to mitigate future disasters. HIGH RISE ESCAPE SYSTEMS, INC. of Sanford, Florida USA was incorporated in 2005 and acquired two (2) patents to a line of Emergency Escape Systems. These revolutionary systems provide portable and permanently anchored options for multi-story buildings and structures up to 1,000 feet (approx 100 floors). They are designed to be operated by civilians yet resilient enough for use by emergency responders.
Control Descent Device The systems utilize a Controlled Descent Device and polyester braided steel cable. A webbing body harness strap or optional EVAC-SUIT™ is attached at both ends of the cable. As each person is lowered 3 or 6 feet per second to safety (about the speed of an elevator), the Controlled Descent Device automatically returns the opposite end of the cable for reuse, similar to a pulley. Our patented EVAC-SUIT™ is ideal for seniors, children and the handicapped. EVAC-SUIT™ is made from a strong synthetic fire resistant fabric that has been aluminized to resist 95% of radiant heat, the same fabric used in aerospace and military applications (bullet proofing). It can accommodate an adult with a small child, pet or personal valuables.
The LifeBox system houses everything needed to evacuate an entire floor! Its weather-resistant enclosure is only 10 inches deep, 38 inches across and can be painted to match the structure. Everything is pre‑assembled and ready to deploy! When mounted next to an exit point, the arm swings out 34” away from the structure. This extension protects the users from dragging or needing to “rappel” down. There is extra room inside to store smoke hoods, flash lights, evacuation plans and more! Exterior labeling is available that complies with the upcoming NFPA standard for Supplemental Evacuation Devices. The standard is initially intended to be voluntary but this will ultimately be governed by local jurisdictions. This labeling will be available at no charge to customers should they wish to add it at a later time. The Guardian system uses a small bracket that is attached using three ½” Lag Bolts. These can be installed inexpensively at various locations in the building allowing for multiple exit points as conditions change. This permanent mounting can be painted or textured to blend into the décor of the structure. The swing arm and CDD can be stored conveniently under a bed or in a closet.
In a Emergency Simply guide the swing-arm up into the bracket and it will rest down into place. Connect the Controlled Descent Device to the eyebolt and release the cable spool. A permanent harness is attached at each end, but a fire‑resistive Evac-Suit may also be connected. With operation similar to a pulley, one user descends automatically at 3 feet per second, causing the other end to rise for the next evacuee. The lightweight cable comes in lengths up to 1000 ft. (333 meters) for approximately 95 floors (off the shelf). custom solutions are also available. 3 lives, 3 floors, 60 seconds. Safe, Stady, Descent at 3 feet per second up to 100 floors!!. Platform Rescue Systems The Platform Rescue System (PRS) is a escape system specific for the use by High Buildings. It offers a building-wide solution and is fully operated and controlled by Rescue Personnel. It serves both evacuation ('down') and rescue personnel transport ('up'). The PRS can be used by all situations of impaired vertical movement like Fire, Earthquakes, Terrorism, black-outs and other Acts of God. Its suitable for all ages and physical conditions of evacuees (disableds). The Platform Rescue Systems are to use for any building heights; the capacity is a evacuation of 27 persons in one of five cabins, in a total of 135+ persons in a cycle. The system may have a logistic 'due use' advantages for the building services. The system is even rewarded by the U.S. Department Homeland Security and received Designation as Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology. More information at info@daito.nl.
